I’ve scoured the reviews across multiple platforms and complied the results (along with my own personal experience camping with my kids throughout the state) and put together a list of 21 best family-friendly campgrounds in SC to inspire your next outdoor getaway!

Campgrounds in SC Perfect for Families: The Coast Region

The campgrounds scattered about the SC coastal region are perfect spots for a family camping trip.

1. Pirateland Family Camping Resort- Myrtle Beach, SC

Pirateland Family Camping Resort is located on the shores of Myrtle Beach, but tucked away on the southern end. This allows visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach without going to far.

This campground is a favorite amongst my kids, as well as having outstanding reviews. If primitive camping is your thing, however, this one may not be the spot for you. It’s more resort-like than primitive, but is a crowd pleaser if you need to keep kids busy!

Pirateland offers tent and RV sites, as well as vacation rental units. And, if you visit and fall in love with the place, they offer long-term options as well.

The rental units are well maintained, cozy cabin-like trailers with multiple options such as amount of bedrooms, covered decks, outside grills, tv, etc.

The campground itself has tons of amenities and activities on site to keep the whole family busy.

The Pirates Oasis Waterpark is always a favorite in my family, with an Olympic size pool, lazy river, and splash pool. Private beach access is a huge plus! There is also mini-golf, paddle boards and kayaks, basketball courts, playground, arcade and a recreation room.

2. Ocean Lakes Family Campground- Myrtle Beach, SC

Similar to Pirateland above, Ocean Lakes Family Campground is tucked away on the shores of Myrtle Beach. The campground also offers more resort-like amenities for campers and endless activities.

Another favorite of my kids, Ocean Lakes offers tent and RV sites. All sites offer Wi-Fi, daily trash pickup, water and sewer, electric, and cable tv hookup. If you would rather not camp, vacation rental beach houses and vacation trailers are available as well.

But, the real fun is at Sandy Harbor Family Fun Center! I can’t say enough good things about this place. Between the 3 acres of incredible water features, mini golf, indoor pool, splash zone, and Game Center, there’s something for the whole family!

And, to top it off, there’s private beach access!

3. Lakewood Camping Resort- Myrtle Beach, SC

Another camping resort located in Myrtle Beach, no list of family-friendly campgrounds in SC would be complete without it!

Okay, so I know I said above that those places were favorites of my kids—and they are. But, Lakewood Camping Resort is their most favorite campground located on the beach. They ask to go back time and time again.

And speaking of beach, you’re right on the shore here! Lakewood sits on almost three-hundred aces and stretched along a half-mile of beachfront. That’s more beachfront than any other resort in the area.

Lakewood Camping Resort offers over 1000 tent and RV sites, as well as vacation rentals. Choose from ocean or lakefront sites, or enjoy a nice shaded spot. The majority of all sites here provide full-hookups, Wi-Fi, and cable access.

The state park has a massive fishing pier that tends to be a hot spot for visitors. Make sure to take a picture in the gigantic deck chair on the pier while your here!

There is a pier store with really neat souvenirs and fishing items located at the entrance to the pier and a boardwalk to lead campers to the beach. Near the pier is another playground that kids can enjoy, but this one is not limited to campers only.
